LYSSA GRAHAM VOICEOVER

Pants on Fire VO

A Fulfilling Life

August 12, 2015 By LyssaGraham

A couple of months ago, I received an e-mail from a colleague saying, “I think it’s great how you’ve managed to incorporate your professional life with your home life. It must be so fulfilling.”

Why yes, I thought smugly, I do have an awesome life. My life, in actual fact, rocks. I was smug. Smug, smug, smuggity, smug.

For about 20 seconds. And then I followed the sounds of retching down the stairs to see my sofa covered in dog barf, my assistant gagging at the dog barf and my toddler racing toward the dog barf at top speed.

I may have misunderstood the meaning of the word “fulfilling.”

But it’s good. Or at the very least it’s entertaining and entertaining works for me.  I’m a voice actor and comic. My job is to talk to people – in person, on the radio, over your computer speakers, on television, over the phone, in an elevator, on a PA system – pretty much anywhere. On the very best days I get to talk to people and make them laugh at the same time.

It’s a good job if you can get it.

And yeah, it’s fulfilling. So fulfilling that it’s time to kick it up another notch or six. Which is why you’re here.

Meet the new brand, the new site and the new demos. Major shout-outs to Celia Siegal Management, Biondo Studios, Cliff Zellman and so many more. Ya’ll make me look, sound and feel like a badass.

Let me know what you think of the brand. I think it suits me. I’m cheeky. Pun intended. Best of all, this new brand gives me an excuse to mass order thong panties with my name on them. And hula hoops! And things that make fire! I can’t wait to give those receipts to my accountant.

Best. Day. Ever.

Responses to the Affordable Care Act and my welfare mom status

Regarding the Affordable Care Act and Facebook

I originally posted my welfare mom story on my Facebook page. As you can imagine, it generated a shitstorm of commenting, most of it, happily, in the vein of “tell ‘em sistah” and “that’s amazing.” Not surprising since most of my friends are like-minded. That’s what happens when you block the Tea Party posters from your feed.

But I do have some conservative friends and they had some things to say about my status. I thought you might like to read the follow up to the original post. I’ve cleaned up the spelling – because I couldn’t NOT do it – and left out the names of my conservative friends I don’t want them to get blackballed from conservative stuff. They’re nice, just conservative.  Can’t be helped. [Read more…] about Responses to the Affordable Care Act and my welfare mom status

About the Affordable Care Act and Welfare Moms

October 1, 2013 By LyssaGraham

Ok, brace yourselves, this will be a long one. When I found out I was pregnant – at 44 and after being told for 10 years that I would never get pregnant – I discovered that I would need to see a specialist. I immediately applied for insurance under the pre-existing coverage portion of the Affordable Care Act. This was the only insurance I could purchase as no one, repeat no one, will sell insuranc…e to someone who is already knocked up.

During the wait on that insurance application, the hospital here refused to treat me unless I applied for Medicaid for pregnant ladies. That’s right, refused to treat me. I attempted multiple times to pay cash for treatment until the pre-existing condition policy came through. Nope, no way. So I very reluctantly (read kicking and screaming and righteously pissed off about it) applied for Medicaid convinced that we wouldn’t qualify because I don’t feel poor. By Way of an Introduction

November 7, 2012 By LyssaGraham

Lyssa GrahamHi,

My name is Lyssa Graham. It’s pronounced Lisa, which, appropriately enough, is how it used to be spelled. I did that to me. I thought I’d be a supermodel after high school. Unfortunately I wasn’t terribly exotic so I changed the spelling of my name as a step towards exoticism. And to piss of my parents. Turns out, changing the spelling of your name has very little effect on height, looks and overall supermodelness. But I’m stuck with it so there you are.

I’m a comic, voice actress and all around funny-type person. You know the kind of person who will attempt to entertain you if you just stand still long enough? That’s me. I’m that kind of a person. It’s something of a character flaw, really. [Read more…] about By Way of an Introduction
